World Cup operations are giving Houston and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport a setting to apply and refine geospatial tools for crowd and incident management. Houston’s Atlas application combines live asset monitoring, weather information, police data, drone imagery and other sources for use across emergency management, public works, police and fire teams. During weather-related closures of the city’s Fan Fest, officials used integrated information to assess conditions and verify that high-water vehicles were nearby for potential evacuations. The application also displays AI-supported threat assessments for traffic and weather. At DFW, a curbside lidar pilot shows vehicle and pedestrian movement to help staff identify where personnel are needed. Integration with cameras and the airport’s incident response platform remains planned rather than complete. The longer-term direction is reusable operational infrastructure: Houston intends Atlas to support events beyond the tournament, while DFW is looking toward winter traffic as another use case.
