Planet opens beta for map-based AI queries of satellite imagery

Planet is opening a conversational route into satellite analysis with an agentic AI application now in open beta. The application aims to combine Planet data, change detection and public information through a map-based chat interface. Demonstrations include identifying rainforest clearing in Brazil and examining data center construction in Tennessee using before-and-after imagery, web context and footprint-measurement tools. Planet is designing the agent to support archive searches, location discovery, change visualization and report generation, shifting parts of workflows that previously required manual GIS processing and research into a conversational experience. The beta sits within a broader AI effort that includes onboard object detection and imagery enhancement.
