XGrids L3 combines site capture outputs in one handheld workflow

10 Sec Scan
For local governments documenting physical sites with limited staff, XGrids has unveiled a handheld scanner combining LiDAR, imagery and positioning to produce point clouds, meshes and photorealistic models in one workflow.
What Changed
XGrids has introduced a handheld system that combines LiDAR, imaging and RTK positioning with point-cloud, mesh and Gaussian-splat outputs in one workflow. The company also says its proprietary LCC2 format can now be imported into Revit and SketchUp.
The Signal
For local-government teams, consolidating capture tasks could reduce repeat fieldwork, while onboard coverage feedback could help staff identify gaps before leaving a site. Any budget or staffing benefit remains unproven and should be tested against existing workflows.
60 Sec Understand
For city and county teams, the relevant question is whether one field visit can supply both measurable site data and visual records without adding separate capture tasks. XGrids’ new Lixel L3 combines LiDAR, true-colour imaging, RTK positioning and an onboard display, with outputs spanning point clouds, meshes and 3D Gaussian Splatting models. The company claims 5 mm relative accuracy, 2.5 cm real-time absolute accuracy and coverage of around 100 square metres in 10 minutes. These are vendor-reported figures, not evidence of municipal deployment or staffing savings. Field coverage feedback, alignment of multiple scans without preset control points and automatic face and licence-plate blurring could be useful for public-sector documentation. A practical first step would be a trial on a small site, checking accuracy, staff time, privacy handling and compatibility with existing software before committing budget. The article provides no pricing or total workflow cost.
